Patrick’s Story

Patrick’s love of sports began at a very young age while cheering on his older brothers as they played soccer, baseball and basketball. He always joined them while they practiced, which helped him build and a good foundation and understanding of each game. As soon as he was old enough, Patrick joined the soccer, basketball and track teams through St. Ann’s CYO and baseball through La Vernia Little League. As he got older he added football and select baseball to the mix.

While he loved all sports, Patrick’s heart belonged to baseball and basketball. He looked forward to practices and games and loved being part of a team atmosphere. He was a natural athlete with a great mind for all sports and always gave 110% both on and off the field.

Patrick was also a life long fan of Texas A&M football and baseball and enjoyed attending games in College Station whenever possible. If he wasn’t playing a sport you would most likely find him in front of the TV enjoying his beloved Aggies BTHO their opponent!

Sadly, we lost Patrick to suicide on May 27, 2020, at the age of 14. In the days and weeks that followed, we were humbled by the outpouring of love and support from family, friends and the entire La Vernia community.

The Patrick Churchman Memorial Scholarship was created to honor Patrick’s memory while giving back to the community that gave so much to our family when we needed it most.
